for real and virtual clarinets
Program Notes: Orbit began life as an exercise in processing the sounds of various members of the traditional wind ensemble. The clarinet was the first instrument chosen for the experiment for its dynamic range and wide variety of extended techniques. After processing my initial improvisations on clarinet, I became very interested in the way the harmonics of the clarinet sound began to separate once reverb was applied. Through experimentation with multiphonics and further digital processing, the piece began to take its current shape. All of the sounds used in Orbit were created with a clarinet.
